Our 2003 winter holiday was planned to be a trip around the world, with skiing in California and Nevada, relaxing on the Fiji islands, a trip in New Zealand, a continuation of our previous year Australian tour and a trip in Malaysia.. In total 9 weeks.

At first we flew to London, then a long trip to Los Angeles, LAX in aviation jargon. Interesting was that the sun set over Iceland , then the sun rose over the horizon again while flying over Greenland. The many times I flew over Greenland with an F-16 fighter aircraft, the island was normally shrouded in clouds. Now the 3 km thick ice cap was clearly visible, The sun set again upon landing on LAX.
Here we met son Peter with his Alexandra, coming from Bangkok on their one and a half year tour around the world.
The plan was to visit national parks, and then travel to Reno, Nevada for a snowboard experience.
We collected the rental car, a luxurious full size eight cylinder Dodge Inteprid. We drove for hours and were still in the outskirts of Los Angeles. At last we discovered in the desert a motel. Next morning we traveled to Death Valley. Interesting, as it is the lowest point on the western hemisphere and the hottest recorded place on earth. Back to the Top
